Theatre in the Rough is an annual festival of new writing for the stage by
young people (aged 13 to 18) from across the North West of England.
Through a programme of workshops - including playwriting tuition, talks
with industry professionals, and theatre trips - writers develop short plays
for production as rehearsed readings at major venues across Merseyside.
In 2009, Theatre in the Rough produced 14 world premieres by 30 new writers
across two nights at the Southport Arts Centre.
Our mission is to help cultivate the next generation of aspiring playwrights,
and to prepare people with vital voices for the first steps in their career.
